Bakuchiol comes from the babchi plant (Psoralea corylifolia), long used in Ayurveda. In a small 2019 study, 0.5% bakuchiol twice daily improved fine lines and pigmentation about as much as 0.5% retinol over 12 weeks, with less dryness and stinging.
Keep it in proportion: that is one small study, and retinoids have decades of evidence. Bakuchiol makes sense if retinoids irritate you or you want a gentler option. It is often promoted as pregnancy-safe, but there is little safety data, so check with your doctor first.
Look for a stated dose. Some “bakuchi oil” products don’t say how much bakuchiol they contain. These are the options on Amazon India we rate most highly.
