Salicylic acid is a beta hydroxy acid (BHA). Unlike AHAs, it is oil-soluble, so it gets into pores and loosens the mix of oil and dead skin that forms blackheads and whiteheads. It also has a mild anti-inflammatory effect.
What it can and can’t do: BHA reduces visible blackheads and makes pores look smaller by keeping them clear. It can’t permanently shrink pores, and “strawberry skin” on the legs usually needs a body product rather than a face toner.
