Keratosis pilaris (KP) causes small, rough bumps, usually on the upper arms, thighs and buttocks. Each bump is a plug of dead skin (keratin) in a hair follicle. It is very common, harmless and often runs in families.
“Strawberry legs” describes dark dots on the legs. These come from clogged or darkened pores and hair follicles, and are often made worse by shaving.
What helps:
- Urea (10–20%) softens and loosens the keratin plugs while moisturising.
- AHAs (lactic or glycolic acid) and salicylic acid exfoliate the plugs away.
- Gentle hair removal: shave with a sharp razor and gel, or consider waxing or laser for strawberry legs.
