How to Use Glycolic Acid for Dark Underarms, Knees & Elbows

Darker underarms, knees and elbows are very common in Indian skin. Usual causes are friction, shaving or waxing irritation, thicker skin build-up and post-inflammatory pigmentation. Glycolic acid helps by loosening built-up dead skin, which can make these areas look smoother and more even over time.

How to do it safely:

  1. Use it at night on clean, completely dry skin, never right after shaving or waxing (wait 48 hours).
  2. Swipe a cotton pad with glycolic toner over the area 2–3 times a week to start.
  3. Let it dry. Skip deodorant that night if it stings.
  4. Moisturise elbows and knees afterwards.
  5. Wear sunscreen on exposed areas like knees and elbows during the day.

Expect gradual results over 6–12 weeks. Stop if you get burning, rash or more darkening. If the darkening is velvety, thick or came on suddenly, see a doctor, as it can be linked to insulin resistance (acanthosis nigricans). These are the products we rate most highly for this.
